Provenance: Although nothing could be found relating to young Catherine Armstrong, we do know she was boldly proud she finished her sampler at age nine, marking this prominently full center, as boldly as her luscious flowers and colors. The sampler is stitched on loosely woven cloth, reminiscent of the lined paper children learn penmanship on, with wool threads, which remain vibrant to this day. Possibly an American sampler, it was obtained from an auction sale in Pennsylvania. It is worked in cross stitch over two threads only.
